Finals of the 17th year of the STU Engineering Olympiad

On 15.2.2024 the finals of the knowledge competition Engineering Olympiad of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava took place, which was created with the aim of raising awareness of technical education among the public and promoting technical education. 

The competition is intended for all secondary school students from all over Slovakia who are interested in competing and testing their knowledge in the competition areas. The main areas of the competition are the automotive industry, automation, applied informatics, robotics, energy and the environment, design, applied mechanics, engineering technologies and materials.

In addition to prizes and certificates, the participating secondary school students also gained valuable experience in presenting their works and projects, which they will certainly make use of not only during the school-leaving examination, but also during university studies. The Engineering Olympiad is at the same time a unique opportunity to discuss matters with real experts, researchers and educators. Students gain interesting knowledge and experience and get to know more closely the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of STU in Bratislava and the study options that the faculty offers. 

The Engineering Olympiad is supported every year by partner companies from industry, as they increasingly want to emphasise the growing demand for mechanical engineers. This year the competition was opened by the Secretary General of the Association of Mechanical Engineering Industry of the Slovak Republic Jozef Kvoriak. In addition to ZSP SR, the event was also supported by other important companies and institutions, namely Volkswagen Slovakia a. s., Tatravagónka a.s, Konštrukta Industry, the Automotive Industry Association of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Maintenance Society, Slovakia Ring, Siemens Slovensko and the Welding Research Institute. The final evaluation of the students' works was also attended by the member of the board of directors for human resources at Volkswagen Slovakia Kai – Stefan Linnenkohl.


For the seventeenth year now, the Engineering Olympiad has proven that it is a great asset in popularising technical education in Slovakia. This year, secondary schools from Bratislava, Nitra, Stará Turá, Levice, Nováky, Dubnica nad Váhom and Poprad took part in the event. 62 student works made it to the finals, which were presented in seven commissions.

Among the best-rated works were E – textbook – CNC turning by Viktória Szántaiová, the design and production of an RC car by Radoslav Klučár, a five-speed manual gearbox by Matúš Ondrášku, the design and production of a bell by Marcius Sedlák, a Smart bus stop by Eduard Pikna and an electric car, whose authors are Adrián Šiška, Kristián Machara and Peter OndreičkaThe winners come from the following secondary schools - SPŠE Levice, the Secondary Vocational School of Mechanical Engineering Bánovce nad Bebravou, the Secondary Technical Industrial School Trnava, the Secondary Industrial School Dubnica nad Váhom.
