Indians, Georgians and Kyrgyz are rapidly increasing. The government will open the labour market eve

The government has made it easier for companies to hire foreign workers, increasing the quotas for so-called national visas for workers from countries outside the European Union.

The advantage of so-called national visas is that they are processed faster.

At the top of the ranking of states from which the most people come is still Ukraine and Serbia, but they cannot cover the demand of our companies. Therefore the number of workers from Asia, especially from India, has increased significantly.

At its away session in Košice, the government increased the number of special visas that the state may grant this year to drivers as well as to employees in industry. The range of countries from which foreign employees may come will also be expanded. For industrial companies the conditions of employing such foreigners are also being softened; under the new rules it will be enough if they have been in Slovakia for three years instead of four.

Employers will thus gain more room to hire people also from Asia. The number of so-called national visas for industry is increasing from the current 2,000 to 10 thousand annually. In addition to residents of eastern Europe, Indonesia, the Philippines and Nepal, Indians will also be able to come on this specific visa under the new rules. The advantage of national visas is especially that they are processed faster.

Andrej Lasz, Secretary General of the Association of Industrial Unions and Transport, praises the government also for extending national visas to temporary employment agencies and recalls that in companies such as Volkswagen, Stellantis, Kia or Jaguar Land Rover, operator positions are often filled precisely through such agencies. He also recalls the exhausting potential of the countries from which we import the most employees today.

„Asia has great employee potential; the people arriving are able to adapt to cultural differences. It is a growing trend; currently attention is beginning to expand, for example, to Indonesia or the Philippines,“
Lasz believes.
