The minimum wage is likely to exceed 800 euros

The minimum wage in Slovakia is increasing and from January it should rise by almost 70 euros. The Ministry of Labour plans to increase the minimum wage gradually so that it reaches up to 920 euros by 2026. Analysts, however, warn that high contributions could place a considerable burden on employers. Trade unions and employers will negotiate the level of the minimum wage, while every increase in the minimum wage may have a negative impact on employment.

If trade unions and employers do not reach a different agreement, the lowest wage is by law slightly more than half of the average one. For 2025 this works out at 816 euros. The Ministry of Labour already has a proposal ready that would push the wage for the simplest jobs up to 60 percent of what Slovaks earn on average. It also refers to the recommendations of a European directive that we have to adopt. According to employers, however, almost no one has such a generous minimum wage in relation to the level of wages in the country.
