The Ministry of the Interior has proposed help for companies suffering from a shortage of employees, which would enable faster employment of Ukrainians and Serbs in Slovakia. The process of employing foreigners could be shortened from 11-18 months to 2-3 months if the new changes pass. This would help fill jobs that Slovaks are not interested in. Entrepreneurs say that they cannot fill 80,000 jobs and that the employment of foreigners needs to be sped up. At the same time, however, the figures show that 140,000 Slovaks are out of work.
„The reason is that of those 140,000 Slovaks who are out of work, 82 percent are in the so-called disadvantaged category. These can be marginalised groups, they can be people who are long-term unemployed and hard to employ, but there may also be some social problem. For example, these are people who are long-term abroad but are registered here as unemployed, or simply and unfortunately work off the books, and such people do not even want to be employed,“
says Andrej Lasz, Secretary General of APZD
If the Interior Ministry's changes pass, the whole process of employing foreigners should be shortened.
„We believe that in Slovakia the process could take 2 to 3 months and it will depend on how the foreign offices abroad are further strengthened. In principle, we hope that the process could take a maximum of 5 to 6 months, so we really could cut it to half the time,“
says Andrej Lasz, Secretary General of APZD.
