APZD welcomed the changes to the act on the residence of foreigners that will simplify the employment of people from third countries. The labour shortage in industry leads to lengthy processes of obtaining foreign workers. The amendment also increases the share of foreigners in shortage occupations to 45 %, which will help the Slovak labour market.
Industry is facing a labour shortage. Qualified workers are missing, as well as occupations that Slovaks no longer want to perform. According to APZD, getting a foreigner into the production process currently takes an average of 11 to 18 months in Slovakia, and we obtain foreign workers more slowly than neighbouring countries. The setup of migration processes is indeed considerably lengthy and complicated.
The amendment fundamentally changes the process of granting temporary residence for the purpose of employment by allowing labour offices to issue, at the employer's request, a confirmation of the possibility of filling a job even before the foreigner applies for temporary residence at the foreign police. The draft law also increases the share of third-country nationals employed in shortage occupations from 30 % to 45 %, which according to APZD is a welcome change for the Slovak labour market.
