At a time when the world's economies are striving for a green transformation, Slovakia is opening the door to new possibilities for industrial enterprises. With the new call from the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic, which was announced on 31 May, a unique opportunity arises for companies involved in the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) to invest in decarbonisation and increase their competitiveness.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment of the Slovak Republic Tomáš Taraba announced the launch of the second call aimed at the decarbonisation of industry in the amount of 340 million euros. It should be a key step towards achieving a more sustainable industrial sector in Slovakia.
Who can apply, what are the conditions and the evaluation criteria?
The call is intended for enterprises falling under the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), which covers 90 % of all industrial emissions. You need not fear any restrictions on the minimum or maximum amount of funds provided per project, which means that even your bold idea can obtain the necessary support.
Your projects must aim at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 % compared to the reference period. The funds can be used exclusively for investment costs directly connected with the implementation of your project, and only after the submission of the application. The criteria are set so that the most effective projects are supported – the lowest amount of contribution per tonne of emissions saved is assessed (70 % weight) and the overall reduction of emissions (30 % weight).
For those who plan to use natural gas, it is important to know that its share in the final consumption of the supported technology must not exceed 20 %. Your projects must also meet the requirements for the best available techniques (BAT) and European Union standards, which will ensure that you are not only efficient, but also in compliance with the latest environmental standards.
How to submit an application?
Applications for non-repayable financial assistance must be submitted through the Information and Monitoring System of the Recovery Plan by 30 July 2024. You can find all important information at ispo.planobnovy.sk/app/vyzvy.
